So, here’s a little insight into social sharing of your emails.  If you enable it, your email can be shared straight to Facebook and Twitter.  Of course, it can also be forwarded.


To enable social sharing, you must check the “Allow Sharing” box in the Email Edit screen.

Here’s what that looks like inside the inbox. The Twitter, Facebook, and Forward buttons are in the top right of your email.

There’s an additional Forward button build into the footer.

When an email recipient clicks the Twitter link, it drops generic text and a link into a new tweet. Here, I modified the generic text to position the link.

When an email recipient clicks on the Facebook link, it creates a post with generic text, a link, and a choice of images from your email. Here, I modified the headline and body text, selected a thumbnail, and captioned the post.

When the “Forward This Email” link in the header or footer of the email is clicked, it creates a simple form with first name, last name, and email address fields, plus a send button.

When your email gets forwarded, it’s received in the inbox (as in the “Share from the Inbox” graphic above).  When the Twitter or Facebook shares get clicked by the sharer’s followers and friends, the email is generated on a page like the one below.  Notice that the Forward, Twitter, and Facebook sharing is top center.

One final note: do not be afraid to ask your email recipients to share your email by forwarding it to friends or by tweeting it or by posting it to Facebook.  You can do this in text and/or in your video.  If you have a high quality email list and a strong community, some of your recipients would be happy to do so.  Again, just ask (and give thanks!).
